Let Us Pray for Philippines

If you are a Filipino, you probably heard about what happened in the Philippines two days ago.  Another storm struck the country again, bringing non-stop deadly rains in Metro Manila and neighboring provinces since Monday. It was raining for almost two days and they were saying that the amount of rain that fell is more than what Ondoy (another storm) brought in 2009. Classes, work and even trading has been suspended due to neck-deep waters on roadways. The water submerged cars and houses forcing thousands of people to flee their homes for safety.

I have been glued on TV watching the live telecast of news from my hometown. The rescue operations were being fed via satellite, and you can see that they do not have the necessary equipments for these emergencies. You see people on the roofs shivering while waiting for somebody to get them. The hospitals were running out of gas for their emergency generators. The evacuation centers are all getting filled up with not enough bathrooms or shelters for those affected by the flood. They are saying that help is on its way but do they have enough resources to do so?

All we can do is pray for everybody’s safety and that the rain will stop. The death toll rises every day and the damage left behind is not yet accounted for. A lot of infrastructures were damaged. Hope the Philippines can get back in due time and life be again normal to a lot of people.

Irene Was Here

The hurricane Irene made a landfall here at the East Coast early this morning. Preparations for the hurricane have been made days before its expected landfall. There were hundreds of evacuation areas for residents who are required to leave their homes especially those who are living along the shore. Hospitals evacuated or air lifted their patients to other hospitals that will not be affected by the hurricane. Residents of assisted living homes like the Assisted Living Ohio were also evacuated to safer grounds. This is also the first time that New York City shut down their mass transportation service. By noon time yesterday, all buses, trains and subway stopped operating. Almost all businesses in the city were closed due to the hurricane Irene.

This morning, we woke up with good news. Hurricane Irene already made its land fall but as we heard in the news, there were no major damages in our area. The wind and rain that was very strong before we went to sleep last night had died down. Irene was in our area not as a category 2 hurricane but she was downgraded to a tropical storm when it hit new jersey and new york areas. Infrastructure damages are minimal although of residents still have no power as we speak. Transportation in the big city is slowly coming back to normal. A thorough inspection has to be done especially the subways before they open to the public again. Tomorrow it will be a bright sunny day here but the clean up has just began.

Getting Ready For The Storm

I was doing some research on home security cordova when I saw the breaking news on my Direct TV. Our governor has declared as official state of emergency as we prepare for the coming of the big storm. People that are living along the Jersey shore are asked to leave voluntarily and stay away from the water. We also got a phone call here at my job from the local police that they will start evacuating families that live close to the river. There is an area here where it gets flooded when the river crests after a big storm.

I am very sure supermarkets will be packed starting today until before the storm arrives. I already have a list of what we need. We have enough food in our refrigerator but I will stock up on water and batteries. I already asked my husband to fill up his van. I will do mine on my way home tonight.

It is still a wait and see situation. If Irene will change path, we will just get rain. We continue to pray that people will be safe in their homes or wherever they are. Be safe everyone.

Flooding in NC

Have you seen the flood that hit North Carolina? I was watching the news and i saw houses and cars underwater. I even saw a hotel roof gave way because of a flash flood. The drainage pipe that runs through the roof burst flooding the hotel with water. This was a big inconvenience to people who are staying at the hotel and on vacation. As i was watching all these on TV, I called my friend who lives in North Carolina to check how her family is doing. At first, she did not pick up the phone but after few minutes she called me back. She was teary eyed in telling me about what happened in NC. They are not in the flood area but she knows people that got effected. I forgot to ask her if she was able to get a storm damage insurance for her house. I know she mentioned to me the last time we spoke that she was at http://www.thesteamteam.com/ getting information about water damage austin.

How far is North Carolina from Florida? I want to stop by my friend's house on our way back to NJ. I have not seen her in a while. This will be the best time to have a mini reunion if we get the chance.

A Tennis Weather

Finally we got a decent weather yesterday. I tell you, it has been spring for weeks but it was still cold. Yesterday was the first day that we had an 80 degree day.

It was a perfect day to play tennis. Hubby called me while I was still at work that he has a game at 4:30 p.m. and he will just bring Isabella with him. A game is like a 3 hr game and my daughter will not mind that at all. There is a playground right next to the tennis court where she can play. I just gave them instructions to bring my laptop to the park, put it inside my black messenger bag and I will meet them there. I have to specify which color bag I want since I have too many messenger bags but only the black one has enough protection for my laptop.

How I wish I could have played tennis yesterday but I was just a spectator. Not even, because I was studying at one of the benches the whole time they were playing tennis. I have a big homework for school that has to be done right away. I missed playing tennis but that can wait this weekend and during my spring break.

Rain, Rain Go Away

The town where I work is under flood warning starting tonight. Because of too much rain over the weekend, the river started to crest since yesterday. To make the situation worst, more rain is expected to fall from tonight up to tomorrow evening. This is actually a repeat of what happened last year. I remembered getting stuck in traffic trying to get out of the flooded area. It was also the same time when we were busy preparing for our yearly trade show. The hotel that my company rented for the trade show is right by the river so there is a possibility that it will get flooded again. I hope that the hotel’s blomus stainless steel mailboxes have been relocated to a safer area because they have been badly damaged by the flood last year. The stainless steel mailboxes were ok but the structure holding them gave way. I also recalled that there was also another trade show about stainless steel fireplace accessories ongoing that time at the hotel that got canceled because of the flood.

If you pass by the river right now, there are emergency trucks on standby and evacuations are on the way. Residents are asked to leave as early as now before the water gets higher and it will be difficult for the authorities to move them. We will play by ear tomorrow if the roads are passable. I am hoping that the rain won’t be that bad.

I Saw on TV San Diego Is Flooded

If you have not seen the news on TV yet, San Diego, Laguna Hills and some parts of Orange County in California are all under water. It has been raining for days bringing flood, destroying roads and bridges. People are leaving homes to higher grounds to save their lives. I saw one hotel in San Diego that is flooded and guests have to be rescued by fire fighters, others are on top of large commercial planters to avoid being wet. Oh, me too, I can climb the tallest outdoor commercial planters to avoid being carried away by strong current. A lot of these commercial planters from other buildings are beyond repair and destroyed by the flood. There is another friend of mine who lives in Alaska vacationing in California for the holidays. She is in CA to escape the below freezing temperature in the North Pole but never got to see the sun yet since
she arrived. Yesterday, she was supposed to go to Knots Berry farm but had to go
back home because it was pouring.

Rain, rain go away please!

Hot Hot Hot!!!

We are having a hot and steamy weather right now. The temperature is close to 90 degrees. It is brutal out there but I managed to walk for about 15 minutes during my lunch break. I always want to get dark during summer, the darker the better. Maybe I can get more sun after I get off from work today. The sun goes down around 8pm so there will be enough time for me.

Rain After A Carwash

Last Sunday I decided to have the van cleaned. We cannot do it at home because it is higher and we don't do a job on the roof. We even have the super wash which includes the inside plus a car shine with tire black. Ha ha ha. it rained the day after we had it done. The rain stopped only last night and it was a downpour yesterday. So that's it for a car wash! This summer is so unpredictable. We normally get these rain during spring time but we never really had a straight week of decent summer weather.

I Am Shopping Again

I and hubby finally made up our mind about the beach party this coming Memorial Day weekend. I will be held down the shore and is being hosted by the Officers of my husband’s tennis club. At first we were undecided because I will be working that weekend but luckily my co-worker was looking for a switch for her weekend so it worked perfectly fine for me.

For the beach party, I am planning to wear this summer dress that I found on amiclubwear.com. I will be wearing this with the flat sandal I have bought from them few days ago. It is usually very warm during Memorial Day so this dress can beat the heat and humidity for that day.

I found this little black dress for the step daughter’s graduation day. It is time to replace my overused black dress at home which has been worn in so many occasions. Since hubby will be wearing his coat and tie, I cannot be in something informal that night. The graduation will be at 6 p.m. followed by a dinner in one hotel here.
If you are shopping for sexy clothing for parties, clubbing or any special event, go to amiclubwear.com for a wide selection of party clothes at very low prices. They also have every kind of footwear and accessories to match your dress. Not only you get them at very low prices, you also get free shipping within the U.S. for purchases of only $50.

My Windshield

This is how my windshield look this morning. The van has petals scattered all over it. It looks so beautiful. Nobody put it there but because I parked under a tree full of flowers then it rained last night. You can still see part of the tree where all the flowers came from. Soon all the these flowers will be gone replaced by just leaves. More rain and wind, they will be gone in a few days. I like flowers. I wish they can stay on the trees forever.

Winter is Back Today

We woke up today with a 33 degree cold. This is almost freezing. Actually, today we got a mixture of winter in spring. When I was picking up my daughter around 11am, it was snowing, very cold and windy. We already put away our winter stuffs so this morning I have to dig in for some boots and thick jackets. I thought we already bid goodbye to winter but winter does not want to leave.

A Big Snow Is On Its Way

Maybe this will be the last snow strom of the season. As per the forecasts, we will be expecting a foot of snow starting tonight until tomorrow. The school already called cancelling all classes for Monday. I doubt if we have work too. Even if my job opens, I will not force myself to drive if I know it would be safer to stay home. Let's see what happens. Sometimes the forecast misses.

Almost Spring

I was just browsing the calendar and I realized that in almost two weeks we will be changing our clocks again. Daylight Saving Time begins on March 8th. Who would not be excited with that - shorter nights, longer daytime. Yehey, spring is almost here. Officially, it starts on March 20th.

Snow Tonight

I took this picture outside the office on my way to the parking lot. It was around 6pm. Snow is in the forecast for tonight and it has started falling. Right now around 9:30 p.m., we already have around an inch on the ground. Papa has started to clean the walkway and put some salt on it. I wonder how's the morning commute tomorrow?

Too Cold

Although we did not get any snow today, it is too cold. It's around 8pm right now and the temperature is at 26 degrees. This is below freezing but that's not it. Because it is too windy outside the temperature feels like 12 degrees. I was supposed to go back to the supermarket today because we forgot to but something but hell NO! It don't want to be frozen. We already have a weather advisory because of the wind. I can hear it whistling. Hope it won't be windy tomorrow.
