$258M Powerball Winner

Congratulations to Chris Shaw, a 29 year old tattooed father of three who works as a clerk in aconvenience store in Missouri. According to Chris, he is just a regular guy working paycheck to paycheck at the minimum wage rate who have bills to pay and with only $28.96 in his bank account. He is the 10th largest powerball winner ever who has not decided yet whether to take the lump sum or the 30 payments.

The winning numbers were 11-34-41-49-55, powerball 20 and the power play was 2. Chris bought his winning ticket last Wednesday for $5. The convenience store who sold him the ticket gets $50,000. If Chris will choose to get the lump-sum, his total winning is almost $125,000,000. As of now, all he wants is to spend more time with his kinds and bring them to Disney World in Florida.

There's A Filipino At The 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver

His name is J.R. (short for John Robert) Celski, a Filipino-American, born in Monterey California to a polish father Bob and a Filipina mother Sue. He is with the U.S. team and recently won a bronze medal in the 1500m short track speed skating with fellow American skater Apolo Ohno winning the silver medal yesterday at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Canada. This is Celski’s Olympic debut and his first big competition after a scary accident where he was injured on his thigh six months ago receiving 60 stitches. J.R. Celski was raised in Federay way, Washington, has 2 older brothers. He started with inline skating winning national titles and shifted to speed skating after watching Apolo Ohno became a star at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. After the Vancouver Olympics, he will attend school at Cal-Berkeley.

Labor Day Weekend Sale

This is the line outside the Coach Factory Store last Labor Day weekend. I took this picture while we were the Atlantic City Outlet Mall. We were at a restaurant next door when I took this shot. I asked hubby if we could go inside, he said, "Ikaw nalang!" lol. The line moves every 10 minutes so probably it would take you around 30 minutes of waiting before you can get in. The weather was nice making ths customers stay with no complaints at all.

At this Nike Store, there was no line but some of the merchandise are already displayed outside the store. This is the chance to take advantage of the super bargain for summer clothes. Time to stock up for those balikbayan boxes.

Walmart Supercenter

There is a Walmart store right where we live but last Saturday we happened to stop by this Walmart Supercenter in Monroe, New York. Wow! It is HHHUUGGGEEEE!!! Never been to a supercenter before but I heard about it. It is similar to a warehouse store set-up, the only difference is that you do not shop in bulk quantities like we do in costco, bj’s or sam’s club. A supercenter has everything – produce, meat, fruits, vision center plus everything you see at a regular walmart and a lot more. There are more cashiers, wider aisles and this one is open 24 hours. I enjoyed shopping at this walmart unlike at the regular walmart close our house which is always crowded from the parking lot to the store.

IKEA Bedrooms For Kids

One reason why I love going to IKEA is to have an idea how to decorate, furnish or style your house. The displays inside the store oftentimes influence you in your shopping. I have taken some pictures. Take a look at the different styles of kid’s bedroom both for boys and girls. They are all beautiful. I prefer the first picture with red drawers but I will change the bed to a single or full size bed. Kids grow fast and in a year that little bed would be too small for my daughter. How about you? Which one you prefer?

IKEA Store and Food

Other than furniture and household items, we go to Ikea to eat. Their Swedish meatballs paired with mashed potatoes with gravy and lingon berries on the side. Besides meatballs, Ikea serves, breakfast, ribs, chicken and fries, wraps, desserts, soft ice cream, hotdogs and drinks. Don’t forget, there is more at the Swedish market shop. The prices are very reasonable, one meal will only coat you around $5 to $6. So next time when you go to Ikea, do not worry if you have not eaten yet, you will not get hungry at Ikea. I love IKEA, one of our favorite stores.

Macy’s Fireworks Display

Macy’s 4th of July fireworks display will be seen tonight at 9:20 p.m. but with a difference. It will be at the Hudson river instead of the usual east river. New Jersey has the best seats especially in between Hoboken and Weehawken areas. Bringing the fireworks to the Hudson is in commemoration of Henry Hudson’s first voyage that took place 400 years ago.
Enjoy the Fireworks at the Hudson tonight.
Happy 4th of July to all.

Mayor Quits For Love

The newly re-elected mayor of San Angelo, Texas (West Texas) J.W. Lown resigned from being a town mayor because he has a relationship with a man who does not have legal status in the U.S. His partner is from Mexico. The mayor has a dual citizenship – U.S. and Mexico. He made his resignation before he was sworn to office last Tuesday and according to Lown he does not want to take the oath knowing “he was aiding and assisting” someone who is not a U.S. citizen.

Will you do this for love to?

USA Swimming Suspends Michael Phelps

Michael Phelps, an eight time gold winner at the Beijing Olympics is being suspended by USA Swimming for three months after the British tabloid News of the World published his photo smoking from a marijuana pipe. The photo was taken during a house party in Columbia, South Carolina in November during an extended break from training. His financial support from USA Swimming was also cut-off for three months. Kellogg's also announced that it is not renewing its contract with Phelps after the photo came out saying that his “behavior is not consistent with the image of Kellogg.” Michael has accepted the decision of the governing body and has acknowledged the regrettable behavior and bad judgement.

Warm Weather in Arizona

It is snowing again here in New Jersey while my friend who lives in Arizona is enjoying their 80 degree weather right now. She used to live here but got sick and tired of dealing with frequent snow and cold weather that is why when she found a property through Scottsdale real estate she did not have second thoughts but moved to a warm state right away. Her luxury three bedroom condo is located in a resort with magnificent views complete with amenities. I have seen the pictures she sent through email plus an invitation to go visit her in Arizona with free accommodation provided by her.

U.S. President Inauguration

President Barrack Obama started his job as President of the United States today at 12:00 noon. He was sworn into office by Chief Justice John Roberts with wife Michelle holding the bible at 12:05 p.m. with millions of people from all over the country/world witnessing the inaugural ceremony at the National Mall. The crowd was cheering “Obama, Obama, Obama”. It was the biggest party in Washington, DC. Right after his swearing in was his first presidential speech as the crowd cheers; all with different emotions on their faces. They all want to be a part of history, being at the inauguration of the first African American President of the U.S.

No Smoking for Obama at the White House

I was surprised to know that President elect Obama smokes. At a talk show, Meet the Press, he was asked by Tom Brokaw if he has stopped smoking. This is what he replied:

“ I have,” Obama replied, smiling broadly, “What I said was that there are
times where I have fallen off the wagon.”

Smoking is not allowed at the White House but Obama said he will not do any violations once he starts living at the WH. Hope he will set a good example to the American people and the world.

Pinay Disappears in Oregon Coast

First time I heard this news was at The Filipino Channel then yesterday at the radio on my way to work.

Leafil Alforque, a Filipina from the Philippines, arrived here in the U.S. few days ago to be with Scott Napper. They have a relationship which started in 2005 when they met through the internet. Scott wants to propose marriage to her girlfriend and he wants to pop the question in a very appropriate and romantic place. So off they went to Proposal Rock in Oregon. Hope you get the idea now why it is called Proposal Rock. While they were already at the rock and before he could pop the question, Leafil was swept away by a three foot high wave. It has been five days since she disappeared. The police are not suspecting any foul play as reported.
