ISO Files

I was going through my files in the computer and I found several file extensions that I do not recognize. To my mind, what is these file extension iso? So, I asked out IT person at work and she said that ISO files are images of cd/dvd ROM files I have. She also explained to me how to write or burn these ISO files into a CD. I know I am not the only one who gets confuse with the many file extensions we encounter but you can look them up at the file extension library where they have a listing.
